Mortaza and Maze​s
August 7- 2020 (Kindergarten) 
One day Mortaza suggested that he could draw a maze on the office chair mat. I gave him the markers and here is the result

Mortaza and Chess​
Summer and Fall - 2020 (1st grade)
Sometime in May 2020, I taught Mortaza how to play chess using a Chess set we made with small pieces of paper glued to nickel coins. Later we bought a real chess set and played once in while. Eventually he got better at playing chess and one late November afternoon, I found him devising new strategies to beat me.

Cotton Gin
November 12 - 2020 (1st grade)
After reading about "Eli Whitney" who invented the Cotton Jin in 1793, a machine to separate cotton fibers from the cotton plant's seeds, Mortaza drew his own Cotton Gin.

Nobel Prize
November 7- 2020 (1st grade)
After watching a video about Alfred Nobel and his inventions and how he established the Nobel Prizes, Mortaza awarded himself a Nobel Prize for discovering his own imaginary compound, UO2Cl2. 
It seems that he is not as modest as we hoped he'd be.
Exposure Diagram 
Fall- 2020 (1st grade)
Here is Mortaza's attempt to show through a diagram the different levels of exposure to CO2. Apparently, it is part of his story about a ghost who exposed a burger to high quality carbon dioxide !!!

Learning Paths
Fall - 2020 (1st grade)
At some point, I was trying to explain to Mortaza how we should proceed with his studying at home to finish the first grade, when he drew this picture and told me that these are different learning paths and there he was and how he could learn.  
Speaking Up at Last
Fall - 2020 (1st grade)
Here is Mortaza complaining (in Farsi) that his dad (that is I) is too hard on him when it comes to his studies and for that reason he has to conquer me. 
This is me being conquered.

Frequency Word Cards
January 11 - 2021 (1st grade)
Mortaza was desperate to earn more minutes to watch one of his favorite video channels at the time (Wild Kratts). So, I told him he could earn 20 seconds video-watching time for every word that he could correctly read from his deck of frequency word cards. He managed to read the whole deck of 110 cards correctly. For four or five cards, he initially didn't read correctly, but when he saw me shaking my head, he corrected himself.

Letter to Aunt
January 2 - 2021 (1st grade)
Mortaza wrote this letter to her aunt who lives in Calgary, Canada. We talked about how to write a letter, how to write the addresses on the envelope and how to put the stamp. 
Mortaza's Poem
March 22 - 2021 (1st grade)
One of the lessons in Mortaza's practice book was about poems and at the end of the lesson he was asked to write his own poem. Here is what Mortaza wrote:

How Dragons Breathe Fire
May 18 - 2021 (1st grade)
Mortaza watched a video about The Most Realistic Dragons. The video talks about which of the fictional dragons in the stories and movies is closer to be a realistic creature. Mortaza then, in his fantasies, came up with a scenario for the fire-breathing feature of dragons. He then drew different stages of this scenario. It involves bacteria in dragons' stomach that break down its food to create flammable gas, as he explains.

Six = S9
Mid October - 2021 (2nd grade)
One day while I was working with Mortaza to improve his spelling ability, I asked him to write down the word "six". After he did it correctly, he turned the page on his notebook and wrote "S9" and asked me what this is. I said, this is "S9". He said no this is "six". I was confused. So, he continued "think of all possible languages". It didn't help me at all. At last, when I told him that we don't have time for this and we needed to get back to our spelling practice, he said "ix" is "9" in Roman numeral. That's why "Six=S9".
